Greeks have traditionally been a bit late when it comes to an ecological conscience. So it’s not exactly a surprise to find the country among the least recycling states in the European Union.
Greece is in the 22nd place among the 28 EU states, according to data released by the European Commission concerning recycling in 2013.
Data shows that last year Greeks recycled only 18% of their waste. The country has also the worst EU record on garbage composting.
Leading the Commission list are Austria and Germany, each having 62% of their waste recycled, followed by The Netherlands and Belgium – all four countries ecologically conscious.
