Greek parliament approves new property tax

Greek MPs voted to accept the the Uniform Real Estate Ownership Tax (ENFIA) amendment following a debate with angry exchanges between government and opposition MPs.

51 Parliamentarians voted for the amendment, 38 against whereas 6 abstained.

New Democracy MP Adonis Georgiadis called on the MPs to vote in favour, which he said corrects injustices, and pointing out that the people will otherwise have to pay more.

Main opposition Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) parliamentary spokesman Thodoris Dritsas spoke about an ‘occupation’ tax and overtaxation of the people who are unable to pay, while Independent Greeks (ANEL) spokesman Pavlos Haikalis called on people “not to pay”.
