“We can have a National Road in Crete, without tolls”

European Investment Bank can fund the project of a new, safe and modern National Road in Crete, without tolls.

That’s what executives of the EIB told to Prefect of Crete, Mr. Stavros Arnaoutakis, in a meeting they had in the morning.

The investor, who will build the new road, will be paid by Greek State with something like a rent.

He will be responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of the road.

If something goes wrong, then, the Greek Government will have the flexibility to reduce the rent.

“That’s what I mean when I insist that we can have a safe National Road in Crete, without tolls. There are 16 other big public works operating this way all accross Europe”, said Mr. Arnaoutakis.
