Greek consumers slowly warming up to e-commerce
Greek shoppers are slowly warming up to e-commerce, as turnover from online sales grew by 25% in a year totaling €3.2bn in 2013.
A report released by e-commerce Europe on Thursday shows that e-commerce is one of the fastest growing sectors in the country last year.
Internet purchases’ contribution to the country’s gross domestic product reached 1.76%, a significant rise as for many years Greeks avoided shopping online.
The report argues that online purchases could become a growth tool for the local economy in the coming years, while its increase rate has exceeded both the average in Southern Europe (18.9%) and the average across the European Union (14.7%).
