Snowbound holidaymakers rescued from Koudoumas monastery

koudoumasA large-scale operation on Saturday involving members of the EMAK special rescue team and the Greek coast guard led to the evacuation of a group of about 50 vacationers who had been stranded for several days at the Koudoumas Monastery, east of Heraklio, following heavy snowfall in the area.

46 of them were rescued by the rescuers of EMAK and Fire Service and the rest 4 of them were taken by the ship of the Local Port Authority, which came from Kali Limenes.

The holidaymakers were from Crete, Thessaloniki and Cyprus and among them trere were two children, aged one and three.
