Former Regional Governor of Crete, Stavros Kambelis, died at 67, after “fighting” for his life in PAGNI Hospital for several months.

He was Regional Governor of Crete from November 9, 1993 to June 18, 1997.

Stavros Kambelis was a pioneer civil engineer, having his own clear political opinion.

Both as Regional Governor of Crete and as President of the Technical Chamber of Eastern Crete, he tried hard for the construction of major public works on the island, such as the Aposelemi Dam and the road from Heraklion to Viannos.
