Ioannina’s school of shame could shut down after student disappearance
The disappearance of student Vangelis Giakoumakis, aged 20, on February 6 has led to a barrage of revelations of bullying at the Dairy School of Ioannina.
Judicial investigation (EDE) findings into the school have shown that the environment was a pressure cooker and it is believed that the negative climate affected the missing boy.
The Tertiary institution’s board of directors are meeting on Thursday to discuss the latest developments considering the institution.
Former Dairy School dean Kostas Mantzaris, forced to resign following the findings, has responded to claims that the school may be shut down by stating that this would be a “pity for a historic school with 100 years of operation.”
The removal of Mantzaris as dean was just the start of changes in the institution that appears fraught with tension.
Over the next few days there will be disciplinary hearings and a number of people at the school will need to face the prosecutor.
