Residents of Gavdos continue to do their best to help more than 140 illegal migrants from Africa, who were found on the island on Holy Thursday morning (see here).
“We are doing the best we can for those people”, said Mr. Vassilis Tzounaras, city councelor of Gavdos and owner of the radio station ‘Gavdos FM”.
All of them were transferred in Kastri village (in the elementary school, the in the City Hall, in tavernas, etc.).
A Chinook helicopter will carry food to Gavdos, as it is impossible for a ferry boat to reach the island, due to strong winds.
Doctors from Sfakia have gone to Gavdos with their inflatable boats, and as MP Pavlos Polakis wrote in his FB web page, a 13 year old boy was transferred to Chania Hospital and he was saved by the doctors… in the last minute.
Ten policemen are also presented in Gavdos, in order to help the local officer to record the migrants.
A F/B will may be possible to reach Gavdos in Holy Saturday. It is unknown for now when the migrants will leave Gavdos and where they will be transferred for a temporary stay.
