Trapped tourists to Samaria Gorge were led to Agia Roumeli

The rescue operation continued early in the morning in Samaria Gorge.

All trapped tourists -who spent the night in Samaria- were led to Agia Roumeli, by firemen, volunteers and villagers.

As Mr. Tassos Kouroupakis (Head of Civil Protection Dept. of Chania Prefecture) said to, there was no problem during the night.

“All tourists are fine. Our goal was to take them safely to Agia Roumeli. I wonder why the Forestry Dept. did not close the gorge yesterday, due to bad weather. I have to mention that our Services are always ready for everything”, said Mr. Kouroupakis.

Today, the quantity of water in Portes is just the 1/4 comparing to yesterday and the main path is passable.

Samaria Gorge will remain closed today.
