When corruption and political instability dominate the city, Dikaiopolis takes initiative in order to reestablish Peace, Justice and Meritocracy. Giannis Kakleas, as unpredictable as ever, by taking on the project of directing this comedy that glorifies the ideals of peaceful coexistence and mocks – cauterizes all warfare exploiters, explores the scenic form of Aristophanes, with the aid of a variety of Greece’s finest comic actors.
“The Acharnians, Aristophanes’ first known work, includes all the powerful characteristics of this great satirical poet:
The sharp accusation of corruption in public life and figures, his loathing regarding politicians that mesmerize people and corrupt citizen conscience and far and foremost his opposition to the war obsession that overtook Athenians and led to the total distraction of the Athenian Democracy.
The poet, using comedy as a weapon, satirizes his fellow citizens’ warlike insanity ruthlessly, cries out his desire for Peace and all blessings that define the later: Solidarity for other human beings, caring for common interest, honest management of the public treasury, faith in moral values, respect and love for nature and certainly joy for life and Love.
And when Athenians, stubbornly refuse to make Peace, then Dikaiopolis, Aristophanes’ character, takes initiative himself for Peace, Justice and Meritocracy and ……….. the party begins ! For political Aristophanes is in the mood !!!”
