Crete Tourism Sector Pros Launch Discount Plan to Boost Business

Tourism sector professionals on the island of Crete have joined forces to boost business and extend the tourism season by introducing a discount scheme across shops and services.

The pilot program, a joint initiative between the Region of Crete, local authorities and businesses, will begin from the city of Heraklion, with plans to expand it across the island.

Under the new strategy, shops and service providers, including parking areas, car rentals, hotels and public transport, will offer Greek and foreign tourists products at reduced prices daily. Every Tuesday, parallel cultural events and happenings aim to attract visitors and enhance the tourist experience.

“Tourism is the main source of revenue for the local economy, at over 48 percent of the regional GDP. The Region of Crete aims for that income to be evenly distributed across the local economy,” said Mihalis Vamiedakis, advisor for tourism, Region of Crete.
