German police found an ambulance with explosives near the Hannover stadium
101 Goals – The news filtering out of Hannover, Germany, on Tuesday night was chilling.
Around ninety minutes before kick off in the international friendly between Germany and Holland, the game was called off for security concerns, and the area was evacuated.
Local German news outlet Kreiszeitung have reported that an ambulance with explosives was found near the Hannover stadium.
Moreover, a suspicious person was also said to have been spotted near the area.
Kreiszeitung went on to report that the German national team were taken to a secure area.
It’s been a crazy few days for the Germans as on Friday morning they were evacuated from their hotel in Paris in the morning due to a bomb scare, while later in the evening they played against France as three suicide bombers blew themselves up outside the Stade de France.
Back to tonight’s events, quotes are circulating from the Hannover chief of police Volker Kluwe, saying: “There were concrete plans to cause an explosion.”
Hannover’s police chief says authorities have cancelled a friendly soccer match between Germany and the Netherlands because they had “concrete information” about a bomb threat.
The German news agency dpa quoted police chief Volker Kluwe saying the information concerned an explosives attack. The stadium was evacuated by police about an hour and a half before the kickoff Tuesday night in the northern German city.
Top government officials including Chancellor Angela Merkel had been scheduled to attend the match to send a signal that Germany wouldn’t bow to terrorism in the wake of the Paris attacks.
