Tomato leaf miner Tuta Absoluta destroys large quantities of tomatoes in greenhouses on Crete

Farmers in the region of Crete -especially in Messara- have reported heavy losses due to Tuta absoluta infestation.

The pest which arrived around 2008 has been largely under control using integrated pest management strategies.

However, the outbreak seems to take the farmers by surprise.

In Greece first appeared in 2008 on Crete (Chania) and in the following years developed into one of the most serious entomological enemy of Greek tomato crops
