Holidaymaker films moment Thomas Cook plane catches fire forcing pilot to abort take-off
This dramatic footage captures the moment a plane’s engine catches fire as it takes off packed with holidaymakers.
The pilot of the Thomas Cook Airbus A320 was forced to bring the plane to a stop on the runway at Crete’s Heraklion airport.
Firefighters and ambulance crews raced to the aircraft, while the pilot cut lighting and ventilation to the cabin to stop it filling with smoke.
Passengers were eventually able to disembark onto the tarmac once the situation was under control.
The flight due to land at Brussels was taking off from runway 27 when the drama unfolded.
A Thomas Cook spokesman said: “The incident happened Monday night regarding a technical problem with the oil pump.
“It will be fixed and passengers will quickly return to Belgium this afternoon or evening.”
