In May this year, Sheila Crook will walk through the main entrance of the Elounda Mare hotel, in Crete, and be welcomed with great fanfare and enthusiasm by all the staff.

And she deserves it: this will be her 39th visit. If that’s not a repeat-holiday record, we’d like to know who can beat it.

She first went in 1991. She liked it. In fact, she liked it so much that she’s been back almost every year since — often twice a year.

While Sheila is now of a certain age — she’s 84 — she’s a well-travelled, sophisticated woman with wide horizons. So why has she now confined herself to one destination?
