Gunman in Chania drug rehab center surrendered on Monday afternoon
Armed police officers surrounded the drug rehabilitation center (OKANA) in Cania, after a man with a gun barricaded himself inside early on Monday morning.
The man, described as a 45-year-old father of five and former drug addict, reportedly barged the facility demanding that the authorities renew his kiosk license at the Venetian Harbour.
At least three OKANA employees were inside the building.
The man opened fire on police officers when they turned up at the center.
Thankfully, he surrendered shortly before 3 p.m. on Monday afternoon.
The Mayor of Chania, Mr. Tassos Vamvoukas, told him that his kiosk will not be demolished.
