Greek Seven-month Airport Traffic Going Strong

Greek airports welcomed over 34.4 million passengers in the first seven months of the year, marking a 10.1 percent rise against the same period last year at 31.2 million, the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA) said this week.

According to HCAA data, a total of 289,453 flights (113,694 domestic and 175,759 international) took place in the January-July period, increasing by 8.3 percent compared to the corresponding period in 2017 with 267,253 flights.

In July alone, 9,923,674 passengers went through Greek airports, up by 8.9 percent, and 77,882 flights, up by 9.7 percent compared to the corresponding month last year with 71,012 flights.

The country’s busiest airports in July were those of Athens, Heraklion, Rhodes, Thessaloniki and Corfu, while the airports of Sitia on Crete, up by 101.9 percent, Milos up by 74.4 percent and Naxos stronger by 60.1 percent, recorded the highest passenger traffic percentage increase in the January-July period serving 33,110 (against  16,402), 43,914 (against 25,176) and 46,404 (against 28,983) passengers, respectively.
