Tsipras reached out to SYRIZA supporters during tour of Crete

“This is my second tour for the reconstruction of SYRIZA and the Progressive Alliance,” main oppostion SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras said on Monday, during his tour of Crete.

“We are carrying out a great campaign to meet the people that have been supporting us for eight years now, giving battles in the name of SYRIZA, battles of historic importance, with great victories and defeats – because this is life; it has victories and defeats, it has uphills and downhills,” he said.

Tsipras added that he wants to meet these people and tell them: “Look, we don’t just want you to be just a voter and applaud us in the rallies; we want to share in the responsibility, to create a big, majority party of progress, a great democratic party of the left.”

His next stop was in the Hania district, where he again stressed the need to upgrade SYRIZA’s relations with the citizens and urged those present to participate in the effort to reorganise the party, noting that the aim of his tours throughout Greece was to hear what voters had to say.

  1. In a historic day for the left, the anti-austerity Syriza won the ballot by a margin of nearly four points over the conservative New Democracy party led by prime minister Antonis Samaras. Addressing supporters as the results rolled in, Alexis Tsipras, Syriza’s leader, called for general elections to be held immediately, saying the outcome robbed the government of any “political or moral legitimacy” to continue enforcing policies that were overwhelming rejected.
