Greece sends aid to Beirut; five Greeks injured in port blast, two of them seriously

Five Greek nationals were injured, two of them seriously, in Tuesday’s blast at Lebanon’s main port, diplomatic sources in Beirut on Wednesday.

According to the same sources, the Greek Orthodox hospital in Beirut is no longer functioning and the patients have been transferred to other hospitals.

Diplomatic sources had said earlier in the day that there are reports that a Greek woman died during the fiery explosion.

The Greek embassy in Beirut is in constant contact with Lebanese authorities and the Greek community in the country and providing all possible assistance, as well as being constantly updated on the developments, they added.

On Wednesday, the Greek foreign ministry issued phone numbers that Greeks in Lebanon can contact for assistance if they have been impacted by the explosion in the port of Beirut.

It said Greek citizens can contact the Greek embassy in Lebanon at the phone line 00961 78990315 and 00961 81507061, as well as the foreign ministry’s Crisis Management Unit at the phone line +30210368 1730 and the e-mail: kt@mfa.gr.
