Christmas Shoeboxes Appeal for 337 needy children in Apokoronas

A group of Apokoronas residents launched an appeal to raise funds to pay for Christmas Shoe Boxes for children living in poverty on Western Crete.

Last year the same group raised enough money to give a Christmas Shoe Box each to almost 400 children living poverty on Western Crete.

Each shoe box contained some essentials to help them go to school – notebooks / pens. Some personal hygiene items or socks /pants and of course a little treat and toy for the younger ones. The value was 10 euros for each child.

This year there are 337 children, under the age of 18, in Apokoronas on the island of Crete in Greece.

They are from families who are classed as being ‘in need’ and regularly receive food parcels.

Last year people in France, the UK and Holland supported the shoe box appeal, many of them sending filled shoe boxes.

However, it costs more to post the shoe boxes to Crete than it does to fill them……that is why Justgiving seems a practical solution to make the money donated go further.

The Shoebox Appeal team of volunteers are happy to shop for the gifts, fill and gift wrap the boxes ready for delivery with the Christmas Food parcels to bring smiles to the faces of these children once again.
