“Blue Sky M” heading to Crete? Cargo ship finally docked in Gallipoli!

blueskymThe country of Greece sent a navy frigate as well as a helicopter to a location off of the Greek island of Corfu after a distress signal was received earlier today.

The Blue Sky M, a Moldavian-flagged cargo ship is reported to be carrying as many as 700 immigrants, the vessel was sailing from Korfez, Turkey, with its destination slated as Croatia.

But, later reports state that the distress call, saying that there were armed individuls aboard, and that the vessel had been seized, came from a passenger. That person also told authorities that the passengers were without “water, food and blankets.”

The captain of the Greek frigate has reported that he has been in contact with the vessel’s captain and that the captain asked for food supplies and reported that the vessel is not in any danger. A fly-over by HN S-70 Agean Hawk reported that the vessel looks to be empty.

The vessel had made a turn and headed for the shore of the island, but a short time later, turned away on a 180-degree turn and headed out to sea. The vessel has now exited Greek waters and is now in Italian territory and headed toward the island of Crete.


The cargo ship said to be carrying 700 clandestine migrants which was taken under Italian control at sea has docked in the Italian port of Gallipoli.

The Blue Sky M had apparently been abandoned by its crew and at one point seemed to be heading directly towards the Italian coast on autopilot.

Reports suggest Syrians and Kurds are among those aboard the ship.
